About Terry

Terry Whitehead is a proud husband and father of four, a devoted son and brother, and a public servant who has spent decades fighting for Hamiltonians—both inside and outside the walls of City Hall.

Terry’s journey in public service began behind the scenes, serving as Chief of Staff to Ontario Solicitor General David Christopherson and later Chief of Staff to Hamilton’s longest-serving Mayor, Robert Morrow. He also served as a Senior Advisor to the former Deputy Prime Minister Sheila Copps, gaining national experience while remaining deeply rooted in his local community.

In 2003, Terry stepped forward to run for Hamilton City Council in Ward 8, where he quickly became known as a fierce advocate for taxpayers and public safety. He served on the Hamilton Police Services Board, where he worked closely with law enforcement to deliver safer streets. His leadership extended nationally, serving on the board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, a distinction few city councillors ever achieve.

In 2022, after a courageous and very public battle with mental health, Terry made the difficult decision to step away from public life. He focused on his recovery, engaged in world-class treatment, and reconnected with what matters most—his family. Over the past few years, Terry has been caring for his aging parents, working with at-risk youth, and spending time with his wife of 30 years and their 4 children.

Now, with a renewed perspective, restored health, and a stronger-than-ever sense of purpose, Terry is ready to serve again.

“I can’t stand by and watch Hamilton slip away. I’m healthy, I’m strong, and I’m ready to finish the job I started. Our taxpayers deserve respect—and I intend to deliver it.”

Terry Whitehead is not just coming back—he’s coming back with clarity, conviction, and compassion to fight for a safer, more respectful, and more accountable Hamilton.
